Ed "Big Daddy" Roth

What can be said of Roth? At once zany and irreverent, he was quite possibly the most influential custom car builder and advocate of the custom car culture that ever lived. Celebrated in Tom Wolfe's memorable tome to the custom car crowd in the early Sixties Ed is a colossus whose legacy will leave forever. The GSL International Model Car Championship has recently named, in his honor, a special award to encourage the construction of in-scale vehicles in The Roth Tradition.

Ed Roth worked with the Revell model kit company in the early Sixties as the company issued kits of many of his full scale cars. Not long before his death, Roth also penned a book on his life and designs. His work has also been celebrated at various museums of modern art as well as the Rat Fink Reunion held in California.

Roth's influence continues to influence builders. Go here for an interesting project that is clearly influenced by Ed's work: http://www.spritzbyfritz.com/bubmain.html Or, check this out: http://www.finktank.com/Main_menu.html
