Small Scale Customs

Many full size custom car enthusiasts and builders like to work on scale model customs, too. To some, designs can be worked out in scale and that utilitarianism is enough to spark their interest and activity. Others, more genuinely committed to modeling, prefer to design and build scale custom cars for the inherent creative outlet this activity provides.

Below, check out the links below to check out the work of Juha Airio, Mark S. Gustavson (including his Mustang Pegasus that is the subject of a feature article in Kalmbach's Contest Cars 2006, with even more how-to photos below to show how the model was built), Dave Cummins mind-bending vintage "phantom" designs, Jeff Jones' scratch built 1/8 scale model of Roth's Mysterion, Calvin Mauldin's many customs, Lee Owen's take on Gustavson's Dream Truck 2 (that feature article will return here soon), and Bruce Owen's GSL Best of Show 'Virtue RSX' that won Best of Show at GSL-XIX in 2003!. If you would like to have your work featured here, please contact Mark S. Gustavson.

The Custom Clinic is pleased to inaugurate a new service here: articles to teach interested visitors how to build great scale model customs! We'll start off with an article on applying automotive acrylic lacquer to plastic models that will be followed by an article on how to apply a candy/pearl paint job. Other articles will be presented here as circumstances permit.

Sorry, we're a bit slow in scanning the many photographs and finishing up the additional text to present more coverage of the twelfth annual Custom Clinic Photo Contest. Said plainly, there are a lot of photos to scan and the time to do so has been sparse. Go here for further information on this delay. Thanks for your patience!
