Factory Concept Cars

Though not commonly considered as such, auto manufacturers regularly create concept cars to test out new styling and mechanical details that often appear on future production vehicles. We'll feature some of the hundreds of these cars that have been made when those designs have been influenced by, or have influenced, custom car design.

An obvious recent example is Ford's excellent Ford Forty Nine. This car, part of J May's attempt to revive and enhance the product line with design elements from Ford's illustrious past, picks up on key design elements from Ford's 1949-51 Ford and its Starliner series that was built in 1960 and 1961 only. These photos, taken from Ford's press kit, show a sleek, stylish coupe that also includes front grille elements from the 1953-55 Mercury line.

Take a look at the following factory dream car items. In the future, more text will be added that will explore these designs and talk about good automotive design.
